No matter where you live, politics and policy relate back to nearly every aspect of our lives - from our businesses to our societal structures to the content that we consume. Now lately, and especially as election cycles ramp up, the dialogue and commentary that are generated by our political figures and those running for office, range from the contrasts of being educational and maybe entertaining to provocative and maybe even problematic. Last month, during the first republican debate here in the US, there were two Indian Americans taking center stage, leaving me with many mixed feelings of related to those contrasts. So hoping to get the perspective of someone who lives in this world, I caught up with democratic commentator, public interest attorney, and non-profit advisor, Kaivan Shroff. Kaivan has law and policy degrees from Harvard and an MBA from Yale and after working as a digital advisor on Hillary Clinton’s campaign, has been active as a democratic organizer and senior advisor for the non-profit Institute for Education. His online commentary and media analysis for the past several years have made him a well sought after and seasoned voice even as he hasn’t yet turned 30. We caught up to talk about a range of things - from political strategy and representation to centrism and identity. But we started out by chatting about this crazy ongoing political universe and how longevity can exist in a highly compressed and rapid churning cable news cycle.
